It’s been 2 months since we started doing our main food shop once a month, and honestly it’s been amazing!
I don’t know why I didn’t do it before. It’s meant I’m able to spend less time shopping (always a winner in my eyes!), and also planning meals for the whole month really relieves the stress of doing a meal plan each week. Okay, I know it’s not a massive stress to do one every week, however it takes up time I don’t really have!
I started off my planning the meals we needed for the whole month, then worked out the meat and dried foods I’d need for the next month. I then worked out the fresh food I needed for each week.
I must admit, that first monthly shop is a little daunting. My trolley was piled high, and of course it cost more than I would normally spend. I thought it would take loads longer, but actually it really didn’t (gotta love ALDI). However, once that was done, the rest of the shops that month were all small, quick and painless!
One of the best things about doing this has been the money we’ve saved. We worked out that across the month we’d spend £160 on food, normally that figure would be around £200-£250.
That’s a whopping saving of approximately £500 a year! Not sure about you, but I can think of lots of things I could use £500 on.
So basically, it’s been a success, and something I am going to continue to do throughout the year.
I was thinking of writing a monthly post with our meal plan and shopping lists included, would that be something you’d be interested in?
