Every month I will be featuring an interview with another blogger in a series called, “All About The Blogger.” It’s a great way to learn about all the other fabulous blogs that are out there! This month features Rachel from My Crazy Brood
Hi, I’m Rachel and I blog as My Crazy Brood, which is a family and lifestyle blog. I write all about my crazy brood which consists of me, hubby (Bob) and our 5 children Ryan (15) Becky (13) Ruby (11) Rhian (8) and little Miss Reese (4). Yes, we all have names beginning with R which does cause some complication when the post arrives! We also have Gwen (our Staffordshire bull terrier), 2 goldfish and 4 guinea pigs (Ozzy, Taffy, April and May). Raising a large family isn’t for the faint-hearted, especially these days with cyberbullying, social media and dealing with teenage anxiety and depression. My blog is my safe place to hide, somewhere I can try and remind myself that good things happen amongst the craziness.
Q1. How would your best friend describe you? (not sure then ask them)
I would hope my friends would think me loyal and a good friend, but I don’t know. I’m still friendly with friends I went to school with, but sadly I lost my best friend two years ago as he had a degenerative disease. Because of my anxiety and depression, I often feel like I don’t want to socialise, but that doesn’t stop them from inviting me places and I know they’re there for me, just like I hope they know I’m there for them!
Q2. What is your favourite thing about blogging?
I like having somewhere I can write down my thoughts. Especially with the stresses of raising a teenager who also suffers from anxiety and depression. I also like that I’m capturing memories of the children when they’re small. I also love how supportive the blogging community is and how helpful everyone seems to be.
Q3. If you could change anything about blogging, what would it be?
The emphasis on numbers which makes blogging seem like a popularity contest worse than I ever had at school. It should all be about quality and not quantity.
Q4. If you were invited to a Blogger’s Cocktail Party, which three bloggers would you invite and why?
I’m still a fairly new blogger so I don’t know many. I’d have to say my friend Missing Sleep as not only is she a friend in real-life, she’s also been very supportive and encouraged me to start a blog.
Q5. What is the best blogging tip you have been given?
Just to try and post as often as possible and to concentrate on making your posts as good as you can. I’ve also been told to narrow down by niche, but I’m struggling with that one at the moment as I’d rather post about what I’m passionate about.
Q6. When you aren’t blogging, where is your favourite place to visit for a day out?
As a family, including my parents, we love the canals! Our favourite holidays are on the canal boat and I’m so excited because my parents have just bought another share in a new canal boat with school holiday privilege. This means we get the last 2 weeks of July every year on the boat! The only downside is that hubby can’t come with us because of work but hopefully he’ll be able to have a long weekend and we do have a spring and autumn week as well which he can hopefully join us on.
Q7. Tell us about your guilty pleasure. It could be food, drink, a TV programme or your favourite band.
A couple of years ago I rediscovered Lois and Clark, the New Adventures of Superman and remembered how much I loved it as a teenager. It also started my 4-year-olds obsession with Superman as well. In fact, people recognise her by her Superman clothes and people are always tagging me in Superman things for her. Hubby has even changed the inner cover of his car tyres to the Superman shield symbol in her honour.
Q8. If you knew you were going to be marooned on a desert island and could take 3 luxury items with you, what would they be?
A speedboat with a full tank of fuel and food and a GPS device so if I wanted to leave I could.
Q9. What was the last good book you read?
At the moment I’ve been ploughing through fanfiction written by the fans who love Lois and Clark and Superman as much as I do. The stories are so amazing and being fans themselves, they really get the characters as they are portrayed in the TV show. Some of them write continued stories with Lois and Clark raising their children to become the next generation of Superheroes, some people create alternative universes where anything could happen and usually does happen. I strongly recommend that if you have a favourite TV show, have a look at the fanfiction which others have written and if you’re lucky, you’ll enjoy it as much as I do!
Q10. Describe your perfect date night?
A meal out and a cinema trip with hubby and no children! I can’t remember the last time we did that! Hopefully, as the older children get older we’ll be able to leave them in charge of their younger siblings to give us more freedom. Having 5 children can make childcare a big problem!
